The Cardinals' comeback victory in Game 6 is an instant classic and is considered by many the best game in World Series history.

The Cardinals faced two-run deficits—and were down to their final out and strikein both the 9th and 10th innings before sealing the game in the 11th. With two outs and the count at 2-2 in the bottom of the 9th, David Freese ripped a two-run triple off the right field wall, just over the outstretched glove of Texas' Nelson Cruz. Tie ballgame. After Texas center fielder Josh Hamilton hit a two-run homer in the top of the 10th, the Cardinals again came down to their final out and strike before tying the game on single to center by Lance Berkman. Tie ballgame.

Then, in the 11th, Freese came to the plate for what would be the game's final at-bat. Freese capped the historic comeback and forced Game 7 by blasting the 3-2 pitch over the center field wall, becoming just the fifth player in MLB history to hit a walk-off home run in a Game 6 or Game 7 of a World Series. Game over. Freese's homer made him the first player in World Series history to have a game-tying RBI in the 9th inning and then the game-winning RBI in extra innings.

After the dramatic finish to Game 6, the Rangers appeared to have put the previous night's loss behind them with two quick runs in the first inning of Game 7. Those two runs, however, would be their last of the game. The Cardinals matched the Rangers' output with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning. From there, the Cardinals took command of the game and eventually won 6-2, providing a story-book ending to their improbable playoff run.
