0 Jimmer-ed!

BYU guard Jimmer Fredette (32) screams at a time out as BYU and Gonzaga play Saturday, March 19, 2011 in the third round of the NCAA Tournament at the Pepsi Center in Denver Colorado. BYU won 89-67. (Scott G. Winterton, Deseret News)

You know you're good when people start using your name as a verb. And after watching BYU's first two NCAA tournament games, I'd say there's good reason for the hype surrounding Jimmer Fredette.

Wofford? Jimmer-ed to the tune of 32 points and 8 assists. Gonzaga? They got Jimmer-ed too, this time with Jimmer going off for 34 points (including 7 for 12 from 3-point range) and 6 assists.

There's not another player in college basketball that is more fun to watch. Three pointers from 6 feet beyond the arc? Check. Blowing by defenders to get into the lane for easy layups? Check. Making jumpers with contact and the foul? Check. Taking a under-sized team on his back and leading them into the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 1981? Check.

My prediction for BYU's next matchup? Florida's going to get Jimmer-ed.

UPDATE (4/4/2011): Turns out Jimmer wasn't able to lead BYU past Florida but he was voted this year's top player in college basketball and awarded the 2011 Naismith Award.
